Local Development

There is not a lot of major development in our immediate area, given that it’s largely residential and a conservation area. A notable exception was the development of the old Ashmount School site, a long drawn out process of consultation, opposition and many enquiries, leading to the eventual disposal of the site and demolition of the buildings. (see our comprehensive history of process). The division of the site gave rise to two further developments, Whitehall Park School and the Ashmount Close housing development (since renamed Trays Hill Close), both now completed.

There have been many such development in the wider but still local area, the gyratory development having perhaps the greatest impact and also creating the greatest public furore. Then there was Archway Tower (now Essential Living), Hill House, the Premier Inn and more. Various shops have come and gone, as well as pubs (mainly gone)
